Painting The Town The Color Purple

Painting The Town The Color Purple

In 2006, I took my first trip to New York City. Little did I know how impactful that trip would be for my life. I met my lifelong, sister friends (you know the ones you are SO close to that they are family and that you can't live without) and started this crazy love affair with the city that I still have today. I LOVE New York City, y'all! And though I'm good with not living there, I will never pass up an opportunity to visit.

While I was on this trip in 2006, I had the opportunity to attend a Broadway show -- The Color Purple. I had seen the movie (all four hours of it) several times and was excited to see it as a musical. And I LOVED it! It was so good. The costumes, the set design, the actors -- all of it was amazing. So when I heard The Color Purple was back on tour was coming to my hometown, I jumped at the chance to go. Actually, I procrastinated a sold out and I got super lucky to find a good deal on an aftermarket ticket sale site if I'm being honest.

So off to my first adventure of 2018 I went, and it didn't disappoint!

Before the play, my sister and I grabbed a bite to eat at Sonoma Wine Bar. I love this place. It is so cute and the perfect place to grab a quick bite...and did I mention their wine list is amazing. I ordered the deviled eggs for my appetizer and had the sliders for dinner. I definitely recommend you check this place out if you haven't been there. We went to the location in the Heights, but there is also another location in Upper Kirby. If you go, let me know what you think!

Much like the first time around, the play was great! This was a different production of the play, so it wasn't the same as the 2006 version, but it was just as good. The set design was simple, so it really allowed you to focus on the play. The actors were also amazing, and the actress that played the character Sophia was my favorite. She embodied that character! If you're not familiar with the movie Sophia was originally played by Oprah Winfrey. All in all it was a really great show. I highly recommend you go see it if it's coming to your town!

So, what I wore was not what I was planning to wear! I ordered a snazzy outfit online and just my luck both packages were delayed in getting to me. So I pulled together an all black look with a pop of color in my overcoat. The sweater and faux leather skirt (thrifted) is from Forever 21 and the boots are from Fergalicious from Kohl's. I've linked the top and boots over on GET THE LOOK so you can shop it directly!

All in all, this adventure was a great way to start the year. It reminded me to not wait on other people to do the things I want to do. Just do them! It was a fun night, out and I can't wait to share my next adventure.
